Cato Hoeben is a film, TV & game composer whose work has been published on channels like the BBC and ITV, broadcast in cinema and distributed on streaming sites like Netflix and Prime. His style ranges from evocative neoclassical orchestral scores combining sound design and live instrumentation through to more upbeat playful tracks for games, animation and comedy.
Recently, he scored an immersive ride experience in Hong Kong, similar to Flight of the Sky Lion at Legoland, recording a 59 piece orchestra with sound design by Oscar-winning sound designer / composer Theo Green (Dune).
Cato has worked on several noteworthy projects, such as Jennifer Sheridan‘s unique take on the vampire genre, “Rose: A Love Story“, which premiered at the BFI London Film Festival, and the Hollywood thriller “House at the End of the Street” starring Jennifer Lawrence from “The Hunger Games”.
Featuring a haunting yet beautiful score, Cato wrote the music for the multiple award-winning BBC nature documentary “Takaya: Lone Wolf” which chronicles the unusual lifestyle of a lone wolf living in British Columbia over several years and won a Canadian Screen Award.
You will also find his music in shows such as “The Snow Spider”, (CBBC TV series adaptation of Jenny Nimmo’s classic book series), documentaries on the Royal Family such as “Prince William: A Planet For Us All” (Oxford Films and Talesmith Ltd for ITV), “Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers” (BBC) and “Charles R: The Making of a Monarch” (BBC), “Exteriors“, a Best Debut Feature Film nominee at Raindance and Manchester City docufilm Blue Moon Rising.
Cato has also worked on several award-winning short films, including “The Super Recogniser” starring Jacob Anderson from “Game of Thrones”, “Four” (starring Jack Farthing, Tuppence Middleton, Nicholas Pinnock), “2 by 2”, “Rocket”, and “Love at First Sight” which has garnered over 70 awards since its release and screened at various festivals such as Palm Springs International ShortFest, Feel Good Festival in LA, and Cyprus International Film Festival. He also won the Wildscreen Festival BBC Newcomer (Panda) Award twice for Lou Astbury’s “White Wood” and then Mat Thompson’s “Hudson’s Monarch”.
In the production music world, you will find Cato’s music in high-tier music libraries like BMG Production Music having written for over a decade for their labels Deep East Music and ZEST as well Universal Production Music, Jump via APM Music as “Hobo Canteen” and Freshworx under his other pseudonym “Adam Yates”. He has also worked on various advertising campaigns via Wake The Town as well as directly with creative agencies like Grey London, Jack Morton, AMV BBDO, TBWA and RKCR/Y&R.
